Goals: Melissa, Amy Oliver & Ashlee

We started the match in the worst possible way by not being switched on from the start and conceding a soft early goal. 2 minutes in and we are a goal down. But like other times this year we have turned things around and got out of the hole we put ourselves in. We worked hard and persistence paid off when we got a goal back just before half time through Melissa.
In the second half the girls knew exactly what was needed and they all went out a performed their jobs very well. From Lynette in goals who made some crucial saves, our defence gave little away, our midfield and wide players ran themselves into the ground, our strikers continued the hard work and put the ball in the back of the net and our reserves slotted into positions and continued where the last player left off. This is what a team is all about and we really showed Thirroul in the 2nd half why we are sitting on top of the table.
Well done Balgownie it was a hard earned but deserving 3 points and another piece of the puzzle in our possession.
Coach Umberto

Round 12 results (All 3 grades)

Posted by faulkst | First Grade,Fixtures,Players,Reserve Grade,Results,Statistics,Youth Grade | Saturday 26 June 2010 5:20 pm

First Grade
Balgownie Rangers  2 (0) – (0) 0 Corrimal Rangers at Memorial Park

Goals: Glen Smede and Rick Metcalf

Bally travelled to nearby Memorial Park to face Corrimal and came away with a scrappy 2-0 win.

After a 5-0 thrashing of Berkeley the week before, the Rangers were sluggish out of the blocks against a vastly improved Corrimal side and neither side could get a hold of proceedings during the first half. A few half chances for Josh and Doz were the best for either side but Rick was looking ominous with his runs from deep but 0-0 at half time was probably a fair indication of the match.

The second half started much the same as the first and Bally were looking increasingly frustrated by the lack of goals. Corrimal were riding their luck at times but at nil all the game is wide open and a goal was needed to settle the nerves and Smedey popped up as he does best with a vital goal for 1-0. A few more chances ensued until Rick skipped clear of the defence and finished well into the bottom corner.

All in all an ugly win for the boys but with supercoach Stewy back next week from a brief holiday the Rangers should be back on track.

Youth Grade
Balgownie Rangers  1 (1) – (0) 0 Corrimal Rangers at Memorial Park

Goal: Kevin McDonald

The hardest task the youth grade boys had was to not get complacent as they faced the win less Corrimal at Memorial Park. The game started off very quickly with the Rangers putting the home side under the pump with some half chances and quality passing. That passing would result in an early goal as the make-shift strike partnership of Jake Morgan and Luke McDonald combined to set up an easy finish for Captain Kev. With Bally looking like they were going to cruise to victory the boys lost there heads and should have conceded before half time. After the break, the play was end to end and chances should have been finished by both sides. With the Rangers missing Vardareff there was always going to be trouble to find a new goalscorer. Jordan Everson came on and tried his luck but had what looked to be a fair goal ruled offside. Bally walked away with a 1-0 win but left the field looking like they had lost the game. The boys know they have to pick it up if they want to keep competing with the better teams in the competition.

Division One (Reserve Grade)
Balgownie Rangers  1 (0) – (1) 1 Bulli at Balls Paddock

Goal: Dale Schmid

This was a convincing win for us without playing anywhere close to our best football. Its one of those games where you drop to the opposition level (with no disrespect to Bulli) and not go out with the intensity you would normally if you were playing a top team. But we got the 3 points, never looked like losing and scored some nice goals along the way.
Well done girls.
Some good news for the team is the return of a couple players from injury. We now only have Shaye waiting to return and as we move forward preparing for some very important matches in the coming weeks its great to see the players back on the field.
Thank you

Division One – Round 10 vs Kiama

Posted by rappleby | Fixtures,Reserve Grade,Results | Sunday 20 June 2010 9:46 pm

Division One (Reserve Grade)
Balgownie Rangers  6 (3) – (2) 3 Kiama
D. Schmid 4 (10m, 40m, 52m, 80m), R. Astone 2 (16m, 55m)

This round 10 rescheduled fixture was played on a stunning warm winter Sunday morning and a win for Bally would take them top of the Division One table.

From the outset Dale and Rich caused the Kiama defence all sorts of problems with Dale opening the scoring after taking on two defenders and smashing a shot into the back of the net from a tight angle on the right. A few minutes later, Dale replicated the exact same run, beat two defenders and squared for Rich to easily slot home. Bally 2 Kiama 0.

Bally then became a little complacent and Kiama’s fast paced strikers saw them claw back one goal after a cross was headed in from close range. Dale restored the 2 goal buffer just before the break, however Kiama snatched another a minute later. Apples Snr suppressed Kiama’s attempts to take the lead into the break after a string of quality saves. 3-2 to Bally as the oranges came out.

The second half saw Bally increase their lead to 5-2 after Dale and Rich both bagging goals early on. Apples Snr had his own Robert Green moment – lapsing in concentration to let a weak shot bobble over his hands – to give Kiama some hope with 15mins remaining. Dale chalked up his 4th goal of the game after shooting from the edge of the box – the keeper palming in to see the game end at 6-3 in favour of the Rangers.
