There was no beautiful warm sun this Sunday for the round 2 clash with Thirroul 3, instead Judy Masters Oval got rain and plenty off it. The rain came down hard and stayed for most of the match which made conditions very difficult. Our aim was to go into the halftime break with a lead and a cleansheet. This should have been the case when Lauren got us the goal we deserved 15mins from halftime. A lapse in concentration and the wet slippery conditions saw Thirroul steal 2 goals in the space of 5 minutes to lead 2 goals to 1 at halftime.
At the break I asked for more urgency up front, tighter marking in defence and getting first to the ball in midfield and I was confident the goals would come. And they did. Another goal to Lauren and the winner coming from Erynn. I am very proud of everyone for their effort and everyone should be proud of themselves and their team mates. We had some off field issues, we were short players, yet we dug dip and worked hard and deserved the points.
Lauren had another great game on the right with plenty of running and creating chances. Amy was dominant in the centre of midfield and was backed up well by her centre midfield partner Liz. Erynn and Melissa played strong up front and were unlucky not to get a couple more goals. Chantelle was kept busy on the left seeing plenty of the ball yet she kept making runs from deep in our half. The back 4 of Lauren B, May, Eliza & Marie all played strong games and our only sub Sally was also strong coming into the defence when needed after only landing in Sydney in the early hours of the morning from her overseas holiday.
Once again it was a hard fought win, especially coming from behind under those conditions. Thank you to all the players, even those that had to miss out, for supporting the team and to all the supporters.
